Never before has Aboriginal art been as popular as it is today. More and more people everywhere are becoming aware of the beauty and style that Australian Aboriginal artists are using in their works of fine art. People everywhere are growing more interested in Australian Aboriginal paintings, artifacts, clothing and accessories and are in turn, learning more about these fascinating people. Australia is a beautiful country, and the Aboriginal artworks celebrate utterly breathtaking landscape of Australia and the animals and plants that are found there. A common theme in a large majority of Aboriginal paintings and designs is the environment in which indigenous people have resided and thrived in for thousands of years.

Aboriginal works of art come in many different forms that people everywhere can see and even purchase if they want to support these hard working artists. The various forms of Aboriginal art include:

1 Australian Aboriginal Paintings

These paintings are created with the oils paints and watercolors to create works of art that demonstrate the splendor of the Australian Outback. Australian Aboriginal paintings created within the last few years often incorporate traditional Aboriginal techniques with more urban and contemporary styles to develop wholly unique works of art. Fans can purchase actual paintings or prints to hang in their homes, offices, or anywhere else that they want to liven up with colorful art.

Paintings done by Aboriginal people often explore dreams, which are very important to their culture and belief system. A dreamlike state can be showcased if the figures are blurry or appear if animals and people appear to be flying or doing something they would not normally do in “real life.” The celebration of the dream is prevalent throughout these prints and paintings.

2  Aboriginal Bark Paintings

These paintings became famous in the 1940s, when people started to take notice of Aboriginal art in all its forms. To create these, bark is cut down when it is wet. It must then be fired and shaped to give it the particular form that the artist desires. Afterwards, it can be painted and the resulting look is striking. Not only does the wood take the shape that the artist wants it to, it is also painted to look however they like. This is a great way to show natural landscapes and other nature themed works.

3 Australian Aboriginal Fabric

The Aboriginal people are famous for their ability to produce handmade fabrics that are high quality and are a good medium for showing intricate repeating patterns. These fabrics can be used to make clothing, and such items as scarves and bags. Aboriginal clothing and accessories that are made from these fabrics are very popular among men and women of all ages in Australia, and the trend has jumped the ocean to other countries around the world as well.

Other traditional forms of Aboriginal art include sand paintings, carvings and sculptures. These can be found on display in art galleries all over the world and in traveling exhibitions throughout Australia. Many are not for sale because of their authentic and historic nature, but they are fun to study and learn more about.
